Moviprep is given prior to Colonoscopy and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy to ensure that the bowel is empty and allow a complete investigation.

Moviprep Bowel Preparation for Colonoscopy and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Please note the information provided is additional to the information sheet provided with your medication. Please also read the sheet provided with the Moviprep carefully.

Moviprep is given prior to Colonoscopy and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy to ensure that the bowel is empty and allow a complete investigation.

Please follow these instructions carefully.

When taking Moviprep you may experience some abdominal cramping pain. 


Preparation


Five days before your colonoscopy:-

Stop taking any iron tablets or medication to control diarrhoea until after your colonoscopy/flexible sigmoidoscopy. Continue to take all other medication (including laxatives) unless you have been advised to stop them separately.

Please avoid eating nuts and seeds

Three days before your colonoscopy:-

You may eat normal meals today but please avoid high fibre foods such as fruit, vegetables(including potatoes), red meats, wholemeal bread and whole grain products (please see food list below)

Dietary advice

Clear fluid


Below is a list of fluids that can still be taken after you have stopped solid food. They can be taken up until 2 hours before your appointment time.

Instructions for taking Moviprep (please also refer to leaflet in medication box)

Dissolve contents of sachet A and sachet B into 1litre of water (13/4 pints). You can add fruit squash (not blackcurrant) or drink a carbonated drink such as bitter lemon alongside if you don’t like the taste. It helps to drink it through a straw and when chilled.

Remember to drink an additional clear fluid throughout to prevent dehydration.

You should experience frequent (12-15) liquid bowel actions within an hour of drinking Moviprep.

You may find it helpful to apply a barrier cream such as Vaseline or sudocrem to your bottom to prevent soreness.

When taking Moviprep some cramping abdominal pain is normal. If however you feel clammy, faint or vomit please so taking the preparation and contact my secretary - Tanya on 01392 350055.

For afternoon procedures

One day before colonoscopy:

Have a light lunch before 1pm (see food list) and then STOP EATING solid food until after the colonoscopy

From 1pm please drink plenty of clear fluid – at least 2 cups every hour throughout the day. Please drink sugary fluids not diet or sugar free versions.

At 7pm make up your first litre of Moviprep. Drink this litre over the next 1-2 hours. Drink an extra 2 glasses (500mls) of clear fluid with the first litre of Moviprep.

At 6am make up your second litre of Moviprep. Drink this litre over the next 1-2 hours. Drink an extra 2 glasses (500mls) of clear fluid with the second litre of Moviprep.

For morning procedures

One day before colonoscopy:

Have a light breakfast before 9am (see food list) and then STOP EATING solid food until after the colonoscopy

From 9am please drink plenty of clear fluid – at least 2 cups every hour throughout the day. Please drink sugary fluids not diet or sugar free versions.

At 5pm make up your first litre of Moviprep. Drink this litre over the next 1-2 hours. Drink an extra 2 glasses (500mls) of clear fluid with the first litre of Moviprep.

At 8-9pm make up your second litre of Moviprep. Drink this litre over the next 1-2 hours. Drink an extra 2 glasses (500mls) of clear fluid with the second litre of Moviprep.

Allow 2 hours for the Moviprep to work after finishing the second litre, before leaving home for your appointment.

On the day of your procedure:

Remember DO NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOOD. You may continue to drink clear fluidup until 2 hours before your appointment. You should be nil by mouth from 11am for afternoon appointments and 6am for morning appointments.
